Second Report

Assalamualaikum. I'm opening my record book right now. It is where I jot down every of  my progress before I post them on my blog. I tried to memorize surah Al Mulk by repeatedly repeated the same verses from verse 1 until 14 on 30th September. I know, it was too early but I know my limit, since I have nothing to worry much on that time, not having too much assignment  to handle with, so I spent my time doing my memorization even it was not much. Since I am not that familiar with surah Al Mulk , the verses did gave me some effects. I tend to having difficulties  in memorizing the verses because they seemed long to me. So what I did on that particular time, I cut or let us easily say I divided them into parts. Take a look :

The slashes are the dividers. Some verse got two slashes. It is easier for me to memorize if the words become shorter. Being able to remember a greater number of short items than longer items is known as WORD LENGTH EFFECT. :)

Why I Chose surah Yaasin and Al Mulk?

Assalamualaikum
As has been informed by the blog's description, I have to record my own progression in memorizing the surahs from the Holy Quran. This is a course work given by Dr. Lihanna for my Psychology of Learning subject.
Three surahs have been given, surah Yaasin (obligatory), surah al Mulk (optional), surah al Waaqiah (optional) and I have chosen surah Yaasin and surah al Mulk. Why? Because....
I read a small book few days ago and I found out that there are so many benefits that we can gain just by reading surah Yaasin and al Mulk. The book is written by Haji Johari Haji Alias. The title of the book is 'Amalan surah-surah pilihan'. Inside the book there are many hadith narrated by famous narrators and most of the hadith mentioned about the benefits of these three surahs.

For surah Yaasin :
  • The Prophet P.B.U.H said,  ‘Surely everything has a heart, and the heart of the Qur’an is Yaasin. Whoever recites Yaasin , Allah will record the reward of reciting the Qur’an ten times. (HR At Tirmizi)
  • The Prophet said, ‘Whoever recited Surah Yasin in the night seeking Allah’s pleasure, Allah would forgive him’ (Ibn Hibban, Darimi 3283/A, Abu Yala, Tabarani, Baihaqi & Ibn Mardawaih, Ibnu Kathir)
  • Narrated by Ibn Abbas, Prophet P.B.U.h said :  I would love that it (Yaasin) be in the heart of every person of my people’ (Bazzar, Ibn Kathir)
For surah Al Mulk :
  • Narrated by Anas Ibn Malik, the Prophet said, ‘There is a surah in the Qur’an which is only thirty verses. It defended whoever recited it , until it puts him into paradise'which is Tabaarakallazi (Al Mulk) (At Tabarani)
  • Prophet P.B.U.h said :  I would love that it (Al Mulk) be in the heart of every person of my people’ ( Ibn Kathir)
So, rather than it is an obligatory course work to be completed, I chose both of the surahs for the sake of their benefits that Allah surely will gives for whoever He wants and because of the encouragement from our beloved Prophet to have these surahs in our heart, other word, memorize. Allahua'lam.
